Kirkwood United Methodist Church
Recognized as a Garden of Merit by the Missouri Botanical Gardens
Take a tour of this Garden of Merit, which has been brought peace and joy to the congregation of Kirkwood United Methodist Church. Annette designed the garden to last, utilizing plants of merit which are known for their hardiness to the Midwest region. Decades later, the garden is still going strong proving out her design choice.
The garden is cared for by congregation members and has evolved over the years. When renovations to the sanctuary altar were underway, the original altar was saved and installed as part of the garden entryway.
The walkways throughout the garden are edged with Pink Knockout Roses, Nepeta Blue Wonder, and Crape myrtle Victor.
The local Fox affiliate channel 2 covered the garden’s installation for its commitment to sustainable and functional materials.
Annette designed the front garden beds to compliment the sanctuary entryway and welcome the congregation as they gather for services and events.
A mix of grasses, roses and spruce trees provide low maintenance foliage throughout each season.
The garden was designated by the Missouri Botanical Garden as a Garden of Merit due to its extensive use of plants of merit in its design.
